For profit company that hides behind a .org domain
They make money by helping prostitution, ex "massage" ads in "services"
They allow prostitution ads and massage ads in the casual encounters section because they do not take down those prohibited postings even when notified
They discriminate by applying rules to some people but not others and there is no complaint or recourse but some stupid public board to complain
They have effectively a monopoly in the United States because no one else can compete against them they are too big and too well known
It is organized and does warn you against scammers, but there are still a lot of scams on there that are tricky. I don't know if it is something that craigslist can do something about, but I can't necessarily trust what I find on there.
Great for classified ads find what you want in the region you live in. It gives the advertiser free classified ads and makes up the revenue by charging for job ads. The site has expanded rapidly and now gets over 20 billion views a month.
I have used Craigslist to buy and sell items, and I have been satisfied with all transactions. Everytime I have posted an item for sale, I am usually contacted within hours (I even sold tickets to a concert I couldn't go to the morning of the concert!) It is a great way to get in contact with people who you can buy/sell from, especially people within your geographic area so you can easily work out drop off/pickup.
