Reserved the 16 inch bike online. The choice of collection store was limited and the nearest availability was 40 min drive from my home. Received a call from the store and arranged a collection from the store the following Thursday after the midday. The order also included the stabilisers. When arrived to collect the bike I was told that the computers are not working and they have no track of my request/ reserve. When I said that I am not prepared to travel again this distance I was told that it will take 30 min to build the bike and I can collected. 2 hours later I was still waiting. No way to sit and wait, staff trying to attend to other customers thus delaying service we were waiting for. Nightmare. Never again I will use Halfords. Furthermore I will discourage all my family and friends from using Halfords. The most shambolic service I have ever received from a retailer for a pre-ordered item.
The worst online seller I have ever met. I ordered 4 baby car seats from their website. 2 for us and 2 for friends as by the time time we bought it has bundle deal (buy 2 get 10% off). Guess what, after 7 days on the date they promise to delivery my goods, I just got an emails said that sorry you haven been F**** off, we are not selling you what you have bought because: on their website noticed the price has gone up and the promotion has been taken off. It just completely upset me as by the them we were buying we could also get similar price from other suppliers. I just want to kick my ass that why choose this dodgggggggy company.
SO, HALFORDS, next time if you cannot afford using online sales promotion, just dong't put it on your website to upset others.
DOWN DOWN DOWN
On my visit to my local Halfords Store with my 'Faulty Car Battery' I was met with a lovely smile and 'How can I help you? Placing my faulty car battery on the counter with the paper work, when I purchased the said battery. I explained that the battery had failed the winter car check! The battery was checked with their instrument and found to be faulty! No 'Quibble'. No 'Fuss'; the car battery was exchanged immediately, with an explanation on why the battery may have failed within the warranty period. Well done and thank you to the TAMWORTH Branch of Halfords for their Customer Care and Guidance.
Took my car to our local Halford auto centre as were offering a good deal of £27. Should of known that would be my downfall.
What a surprise failed,
Front Disc corroded & weak
Rear hand below Efficiency
Front Head light Blown
Tail Light Out
Rear tires close to legal limit
and Brake pipes corroded
Quote to repair the brakes and Discs £160.22
Quote for Head lights £14
Handbrake cable £137.00
Total Repair - £311.22
The front pads I`ll give them, were worn and the bulbs were blown. Actual cost
2x Bulbs £2
2x Disc £29
2x pads £21
Admitedly I repaired them myself so an aspect of labor in there, The hand brake had no fault at all.On inspection the discs were slightly corroded, as any disc would be after a few years on the car. Changed everything and got a retest booked.
The examiner began his retest, to which I began a lengthy call to my bank. After a while the examiner parked the car up in front of me, and I asked if everything was OK and did it pass. To which he replied `Yes all fine` I replied "has it passed now," to which he said `Yes give me 5 mins to do the paperwork.`
I finished my call, and went in expecting to pay my money and leave, the manager told me it had failed on Hand Brake efficiency only being 13%.
Totally confused I asked why the examiner had just told me it had passed. The manager said I was mistaken, and he didn`t say that. Then presenting me with a quote said I either repair it there or it will be a full charge for a retest. So £137 for a new hand brake cable fitted......
I then made a call to an MOT centre around the corner to which they had an appointment within the hour. Took the car there and didn`t mention anything about the Halfords Ordeal, removed all paperwork and sat watching the MOT.
Flew through with no advisory or failures, asked about the hand brake efficiency and he showed me the screen that said it was 26% which he said was typical and not really anything to worry about for the age of the car. I showed him the Halfords paperwork and he was gob smacked. The rear tyres were 4mm to which the legal limit is 1.6mm. Then he asked why he failed the front Discs & not the rears as they would of been in the same condition.
Clearly they are offering cheap MOT`s to then trap customer into ridiculous prices..... I`ve learnt my lesson dearly and won`t go anywhere near a halfords of any sorts again.......
Halfords Autocentre - Naively enticed by their half priced MOT offer and took my car to them for it's MOT.
Failed needing two new tyres and the headlight lenses were yellowed and cloudy (apparently). They asked if they could quote for the work which I declined and took it to a local garage for the tyres (budgets at £36 each). The mechanic was surprised it failed on the lenses which he thought were OK but advised a cleaning & polishing product that would get them up to spec which I ordered online.
I spent an hour cleaning and polishing the headlight lenses which now looked as good as new so booked a retest with Halfords.
Arrived at the allotted time only to be told they had double booked me so had to go back later when they could fit me in. Failed again on the headlights and also on a different tyre which they must of missed on the first MOT !! Unreal!!
Getting worn down with the hassle of it all I accepted a quote for the tyre - £51 (£16 more expensive than the others I had bought at an independent) and agreed to have the lenses also fitted by them. I left the car with them and spent £8 on a taxi home after being told they would have it all done by 4 pm including a full MOT (which I would have to pay for again)
I got home and received a call that the lenses weren't available until after my allotted MOT time so they couldn't do the MOT after all. I asked for the prices of the lenses they had sourced which were £91 each ( brand new £20 each on Ebay) plus £50 labour each so £282 plus the tyre and MOT test fee.
I told them to not do anything and got a lift to pick the car up and smelling a rat managed to book my car in at a garage that specialises in MOT's ONLY. Paid £48 for the test fee and surprise surprise it passed. They told me they hear of similar stories all the time about Halfords.
If you want to be milked of your cash Halfords is for you. If, however, you value your time, money and sanity then look elsewhere. I'll never, ever go to Halfords for anything again.
I had a steering rack fitted to my car for the last MOT.
Obviously it is acceptable to expect a steering rack to last many thousands of miles, 80,000+ in fact.
However, after 3,200 miles it failed.
The guarantee was 2 weeks out of date, but I didn't think that would be a problem, as I have been a customer of the Torquay branch for many years, spending thousands of Pounds there.
I took the car to them, and explained the issue to the manager, who then asked me to leave the car with them, and he would have it looked at.
A few hours later, I telephoned for an update.
The manager informed me that the Steering Rack had indeed failed internally, and needed replacing.
He said he had phoned around, and it would be a few days before he could get the parts in, but as the car was dangerous to drive, he suggested I leave the car with him, which I agreed to.
I then asked about the work being done under warranty.
This is where the fun begins.
The manager told me that the guarantee was out, so I would have to pay full price.
I argued that the guarantee was only 2 weeks out, plus the steering rack had failed at only 3200 miles, which in my mind meant it had to have been manufactured faulty when it was first installed onto the car, which in my mind made the part unfit for purpose, as it is quite reasonable to expect a steering rack to last many miles more than this one did.
The manager disagreed strongly.
I asked him if he felt it was reasonable for it to fail so early, and he said it wasn't ideal, but these things happen!
I then told him that by his reckoning, it is reasonable for an average car based on annual millage to have a new steering rack fitted every 3 months, again the manager shrugged it off.
He offered me a £40 discount, and said that as I was given a good price originally, I should be great full for that!
I had no choice but agree for him to fix my car, so he said he would get it done.
I was far from happy, so I called the Halfords HeadOffice, and got through to gentleman on customer service.
I explained the above, and said I wasn't happy with £40 discount on a part and labour that cost hundreds.
The 'customer service' rep said he would look into it and call me back within the hour.
The next day I still was waiting for the call, so I rang head office again.
The same person answered, I asked why hedidn't call me back, and he replied 'The Torquay Manager was right, so there was nothing to tell you'. (Great customer service)
I then said I was far from happy, and asked to speak to a manager so I could make a complaint.
He refused, and said there were no managers in the building.
I said I found it very hard to believe that a company the size of Halfords had no managers on duty at their head office.
He then said the manager was busy.
'To busy to speak to a customer'? I asked.
He replied Yes.
So I said I would hold until the manager was not busy.
He put me on hold... for 35 minutes, just to come back to me and say the Manager would call me back.
I told him I expected the called within the hour or I would call back, and hung up.
20 minutes later my phone rang, a mobile number flashed up.
The person calling identified himself as Darren Stone, the regional manager for Halfords.
His first words were 'What do you want'?
I began to calmly and politely explain from the beginning, when Darren butted in, and told me I was being incredibly unreasonable, and that a guarantee is a guarantee, and they will not offer ANY discount at all.
I asked him if he felt he was offering good customer service, he replied ' Yes the best, just not to an idiot like you'.
I then asked him to confirm his name, when he began to slowly and deliberately spell it out, in a condescending fashion.
U told him I was perfectly capable of spelling Darren for myself, when he then replied that in his opinion I was a 'Moron' that needed all the help he could muster.
I then told him that his attitude stinks, and that I would never use Halfords again.
I then told him I would make an official complaint about him.
'Guess what, the manager at Torquay has fixed your car early after getting a part else where, he was going to charge less than he quoted, but now you can whistle, I will phone him and tell him to put the old part on and take your car to your address, and you are now banned from all Halfords across the country'.
I was simply dumbfounded. What on earth could I say to a man like that?
I hung up.
The Torquay manager then called me, and said his boss had told him to put the old part back on the car, because he thought I wouldn't pay.
He said he called me because he was confused because he thought I wanted him to fix the car.
I told him this was the most bizarre, stupid, and childish behavior I had ever known
and that quite obviously I wanted my car fixed, and that I did not say once that I would refuse to pay.
I told him I would get a taxi a pick my car up.
The manager then told me he couldn't let me have my own car back until his boss okay-ed it! (I kid you not)
As it was nearly closing time, and I was sick of it all, I told him to do what he liked.
A few minutes later he called me back again, and said the car would be fixed and ready for collection in the morning.
He then stated that even though a new part was on the car, that they wanted me to sign a letter to waive my right to a guarantee, as I was getting it for a special price as a good will gesture!
Well, what can I say?
I will never used that company again, I will do my best to ensure people know what kind of company Halfords are, and I will keep pushing my complaint until I am happy it has been dealt with properly.
This review is for a while back. I bought several town bikes in Halfords Norwich and everything that could go wrong with them did go wrong with them. All of them almost disintegrated after jus a few weeks. The last one I bought was in 2007 and it lasted barely a month. A brake fell off, the back wheel buckled beyond comprehension, the pedal came off and I was sacked from a job because I relied heavily on a bike to get to work.
This was too much. I actually bought a third hand bike for £15 and I still have it today at the time of writing. (Talking of which I had to buy a load of new spare parts for it this year. Getting them from Ebay saved me 50% on Halfords prices!)
I did write to complain. All I got was the offer of a SMALL refund (hardly worth it when I had shelled hundreds of pounds on bikes that quite simply are NOT roadworthy!). When I went to the store to collect my meagre refund and return the bike which was wrecked, no kidding it was unusable, the guy made out that it was their first complaint!
I will not shop there again unless it is ONLINE only and their price is cheaper than anywhere else!
If I want a new bike I will not get it from there, that's for sure...
I phoned halfords today to get a quote on a new wing mirror the man I spoke to was pleasent and helpfull it was the price that gave me a heart attack. I live locally and like to give my custom to local shops but in this instance I will not be.
halfords can do me a wing
mirror not painted for 61.66
Clifford's in Brighton can get it for me same day and painted for 45:00
and camberly auto factors can do it next day and painted for 38:00.
so I am sorry to say halfords you have lost my custom for good as I feel you will always over charge.
a shocked customer
Last July took my car into halfords for a MOT, failed on a few items was quoted £250 for all the work done, which I agreed to. Took the car in the next day (a saturday) for all the work to be carried out. Heard nothing all day phoned them at 1700 and said the car wasnt finished and they had to wait till monday to get a tool, collected the car that evening and would returnit monday, was then charged £330!! only noticed after i had added my pin and asked why the sudden change in price. Said they had forgotten to add part of the work on when they quoted me! I said that i felt that it was unacceptable and i would discuss it further on monday.
Took the car back monday and they did give be a partial refund for the difference, still cost me £45 more than the original quote. Again they had the car the whole day and again I had to phone.
Fast forward 10months and 4000 miles and the wheel bearing they replaced needed replacing again, so I took to a different halfords, part under warrenty which they replaced free of charge after trying to get me to puchase a £200 exhaust (which cost me £125 else where!). All fine again.
4 months later checking my car before its next MOT, and noticed the the antiroll bar (which was replace the year before) was missing!! that was re fitted else where.
And Now just 7 months later the wheel bearing need replacing again!!
Taking it to a independent and will never use halfords.
Very poor customer service. My car had been broken into and the radio stolen. I called Halfords up on Friday, and the person I spoke to was pleasant and told me to bring it in on Saturday morning and he'd get me a new radio fitted.
I turned up on Saturday. After being made to stand around for a while, I was told he couldn't fit it now, even though one of his appointments had cancelled. He booked me back in a few days later. On arriving to get the radio fitted again, it took 20 minutes to find someone who would speak to me about it. They told me the fitter hadn't turned up to work. The manager came and took my keys, telling me it would be done in 30 minutes.
When I returned after 40 minutes, it took another 20 minutes to find someone to talk too. I was ignored by a customer service woman who was stressing about not being able to find fitters (who were outside smoking.) Finally the manager came back and said the fitter hadn't turned up, and did I realise it would take 2 hours and be x labour charge to fit. I told him how much I'd been quoted on 2 occasions, and he denied this. Rather than call me and let me know they couldn't do fit it today, they left me hanging around for 50 minutes.
I won't be going back, and I suggest you avoid.
I see below that halfords have been slated "mainly for car repairs" which I have no knowledge of. However I must provide very positive feedback for the York branch cycle team who have been excellent and very helpful. Great advice - bike is excellent for my needs. Very happy with bike. One or two very minor issues (probably my fault) that they have handled quickly and efficiently and with no charge. My experience with York team has been excellent and I am going to purchase sons new bike for Xmas from them soon.
Went to get a new battery, they offered to fit it for 6 quid...I thought fudge it, he had the tools and I don't own a spanner believe it or not.
The fitter was some old codger who put it in backwards (despite my screams of protest, funny dancing, smoke signals, fireworks and light/sound show coming from the car) and blew the alternator. They got it towed and got me a hire car. They also compensated me for 2 days loss of earnings. Fair enough.
However, they then found the car would not rev over 3000rpm and I'm sure the autocentre is to blame for that, as the car was tip top before. They sent it back, it worked for a while and now the fault is back. They now have it at the autocentre again, but I am car-less and it has caused me a lot of stress.
The bit which frustrates me most is the attitude I got from JOHN BURNETT, a Customer Services Manager. He outright lied to me about the amount of money I would receive for all the times I've had to phone them at my own expense and a taxi journey I had to make to pick up my car. He refused to offer me anything in the way of compensation for all the aggro they caused! He was also very condescending and kept bleating out the same old tired corporate script as said by others on here.
I will be seeking compensation but I will not speak to him again.
Avoid Halfords like the plague. All that for a battery!
Click and collected a great deal for some car lifting equipment. Sadly the York store sold the last one I had ordered. The in store sales rep was about as much use as Anne Franks drum kit and frankly very rude. Called customer service to complain and within hours had an alternative set of lifting equipment put together at the Selby store, this new set was uprated equipment and much more expensive than the original set.
I am almost certain Halfords lost out on this sale but have definitely made their money back off me since. Would like to make special mention of Charlie and Becky in store for making the customer experience bearable. Sadly cant remember the phone customer service reps name but she was tremendous. Even called me back to save my mobile minutes.
Went from completely enraged customer on the war path to happy as Larry.
I bought these items about 8 months ago but noticed a string of bad Halfords reviews so thought I should tip in my 2 cents.
A third of my two year old child's finger had to be amputated after becoming caught in a bike bought for my 5 year olds birthday. Halfords refuse to advise customers to add an enclosed chain guard as it's customer choice. The bike was also built so badly in store ( loose brakes and wheels, no rear reflector or manual provided, no grease used so bike would have seized up and not been able to grow with the child etc) I've had to have it rebuilt and made safe elsewhere. Halfords says it passed their safety check so must be fine, but no one has actually looked at it! Do not buy your child a bike from Halfords and make sure every child's bike has an enclosed chain guard please!
I had Halfords fit 2 headlight bulbs in my KA and Friday it went to a proper garage and failed the MOT due to the 2 headlight bulbs one of which "had not been fitted properly".
They say they have competent staff however this has failed to be seen. I will never be allowing any member of halfords to touch my car ever again. Their staff are clearly incompetent.
I would urge everyone to avoid the we fit service like the plague and just pay a proper garage to fit items for you. Okay its more expensive but at least it will be done properly.
I have just bought car two weeks back after that i had oil leak from bonut of the car vw golf 1.4 2000 and car was cutting off whenever i stop at traffic light or at corner when i put full clutch. The manager tell me after 4 days he has to change cambelt, water pump, seals, coolant, crankshaft seals everything to gather £560 pound. While i bought car trader told me owner has just change timing belt so i dont need to worry for atleast a year. Now i trusted halford manager and ask him to fix in £560 pound he manage to do oil leak but now i got two problem. Car still cut off engine at traffic light and oil pressure lights come on. Same day i take back car to halford manager say drive for two to three days then if problem still there he will fix it. As he said i drive for three days problem still there. So he says he cleaned throttle again drive for two to three days if problem there tell him. Finally he said he dont know the problem about car cutting off..............He is manager in Halford and said he dont know the problem after keeping my car more than week in garage.....So i took it to my friends garage very nice guy Gary in Hale Altrincham he check in his computer diagnostic check and he find out its cambelt halford didnt put properly so go to them as halford provided 12 month guarantee i speak to Head office of halford and they says they are getting back to me....today.........Lets See........
HALFORDS TORQUAY DEVON
Firstly you go through triage,be under no illusion that this is reception as the people there are there only to assess just how much money they can con out of you.As for all there offers ,another con how many of you have actually taken their offer of a HALF PRICE MOT and left their centres paying only the price of a half price MOT ,we had a pre-mot done elsewhere less than 1 week ago yet surprise surprise they managed to find a SEIZED CYLINDER which they had to repair (thought this would have warranted a replacement) any way guess what this alleged work cost £27.50 which takes us slightly above full MOT price .Triage told us that this should have been £36.00 but as a gesture of good will they would make it £27.50 FOR GESTURE OF GOOD WILL see you have seen your car sitting with NO ONE DOING ANY WORK ON IT OF ANY KIND UNTIL YOU WERE SEEN WATCHING , then and only then did we remove the rear wheels but still did NOTHING TO THE VEHICLE
Have just been called by DARREN from Halfords it would seem that both my wife and I are in the wrong, according to him and that Halfords Torquay did not manufacture a brake fault in our car then remove it from our sight where it sat for 15mins till they thought they had done enough of nothing to justify charging us for work not done. They lied to us about a fault that did not exist then conned us out of money for work they did NOT carry out despite what this Darren has said they have also it would seem pulled the wool over his eyes .
AVOID HALFORDS AUTO CENTRES AT ALL COSTS you only have to look on trust pilot to see what they are truly like .Have booked our vehicles into a reputable company as we can not trust anything they say or ALLEGEDLY do.
A couple of years ago I took my car in to Halfords in Speke to get a headlight bulb changed. First they sold me the wrong bulb (despite me pointing out the one on the reference chart was different) and the boy who came out to fit the bulb went to swap it before demanding the difference in price from me before proceeding. The boy (he looked about 18) then began to dismantle the front of my car, throwing screws on the ground which made me wince as there was a drain nearby and I expect if any had got lost I would have been expected to pay for them. He wrestled the headlamp out, changed the bulb (after some time) and wrestled the light back in. As I was in a hurry it was not until later that I realised the front bumper was now badly scratched under the headlight. Phoned up customer services, who told me to phone the store and speak to the manager. The manager was actually borderline reasonable and told me to bring my car back the next day and they would take a look. When I walked in and asked for the manager the entire staff turned to look at me, as if they’d all been discussing the incident beforehand, which was fairly intimidating. The manager said they would send another guy out to look at the scratch, and he came out with some polish and had a go at it, which obviously wasn’t going to help as it was down to the metal. The original lightbulb ‘fitter’ came out to join us as this was happening and stated ‘I don’t remember scratching your car yunno’, again adding to the general air of completely disbelieving my story. This despite the fact that it would be completely impossible to scratch that part of a car any other way. After some ‘discussion’ they eventually caved and agreed to send someone to re-spray my bumper. It would be preferable for Halfords staff to learn to perform simple replacements without scratching the hell out of people’s cars however, and I won’t be going back if I can possibly avoid it!

On the 26 April 2013 I purchased A DAB car radio and paid for it to be installed by the store engineer. £174.96 in total,
Two hours after getting my car back I returned to the store and told them I thought it was not working properly. He came out had a play with and said it was working fine, he said do not forget you cannot receive a good reception on DAB all around the country yet.
Today I returned to the store again to complain about the radio the reception I had been getting was just so poor. I had to be quite forceful about the problem and produce my proof of purchase.
An engineer came out and had a look. He fiddled around at the back of the radio and said it should be ok. This time I was ready for that and showed him that as you go through the DAB channels it losses reception. Eventually I proved my point so he went into the store to speak to his boss.
When he came back he put a CD in the radio had it select the second track on the CD. Turned the Radio off. Turned the radio back on and then claimed that because the radio remembered it was track two there was nothing wrong with it. He said it is working fine, At this point if I had been a fool I would have left.
I asked him how his playing a CD had improved my radio reception. I then proved that the radio still had the same fault. Poor reception.
Out comes big boss who has a look at the back of the radio checks the coax connection then looks at the AE stuck to the car window. He reaches up and pulls off part of the car widow interior trim and says here is the problem; the AE has not been earthed to the metal of the car, without the earth it won’t be working. You have been driving around using the radio but the AE will not have been working. He pulls it off repositions the AE and sticks the earth to the metal window frame. Puts the trim back sticks the radio back in its hole and says there you are its working now.
Well yes it is working now.
No offer of any kind of compensation.
I have suffered poor reception from my Radio for six months due to their incompetent installation and never received as much as a sorry about that Sir.
I am wondering how many other cars have had radios fitted in this manner whose owners are driving around putting up with it or just moaning about the poor quality of digital radio due to a poor fitting from HALFORDS.

I tried the Camberley branch and the Farnborough branch and they will not see another penny from me, the first time i took the car for a MOT and 30 minutes later received a call from them saying it needed some repairs done and asking £1200 to do it, i refused as i was sure there was nothing wrong with the car and took it to another MOT centre the following day, has expected it got a pass without any problems. Second time i took the car for a wheel alignment and when i got the car back it was even worse so i had to take the car to another garage to get it done properly. Avoid Halfords at all cost, they may have good prices but in the end i had to pay twice for the same job.

Halfords in Slough Mill Street
Booked tyres on line and found a good price. chose Halfords auto centre Slough for the fitting, not the farnham road one as i had experienced bad service there in the past. Big mistake.I thought that they were all seperate and run as a franchise service.
Yhey are one company that i will never use again. I was kept waiting even though i was booked in for the tyres to be fitted. I could see the tyres stacked in a corner of the depot. they were not touched as job after job was done before mine. i complained and was given the usual, they will do it next line. NEVER AGAIN WILL I USE ANY HALFORDS

I had just purchased a car and wanted to have it checked over for my own peace of mind as salesmen will tell you anything when selling a car! So I booked it into my local Halfords for the free safety check; which included tyres, suspension, brakes, gear box, battery check, everything I wanted to be sure was fine. I booked online and chose the 10am slot as I had to be at work for 11:30am and thought an hour or so would be plenty for the checks required, however......I arrived at 09:45 and they were closed; fair enough they didn't open until 10am so I didn't mind waiting.... however when 10am came and went I started to get a little annoyed. The young lad finally arrived at 10:15am by this time there were a few of us waiting. I had been there first but ended up at the back of the queue *how did that happen*? No apology to waiting customers for being late.
When the lad finally got to me I gave my name he filled in the paper work stating free safety check and said it would be about a 3 hour wait!! I said "you're joking aren't you?", he replied, "no I'm not". I couldn't believe the cheek of the guy. I explained that I had been first to arrive and that I'd booked online over a week before and chose the 10am slot and that I wanted mine looking at now.
He checked the system and saw this was correct so handed the mechanic my keys and told him to look at mine first.
He then said it would be about an hour. When I got the car back I was told I needed a new track rod end as it was worn to excess and also a rear suspension arm bush was perished. I was quoted over £300 in total. I told them I would get back to them and left! So much for my peace of mind.
I actually work above a garage and I told them what Halfords had said, so the mechanic got my car up on the ramp and checked it. He called me in and showed me....that the track rod end was practically brand new and the suspension arms and bushes were absolutely fine. So the moral of the story is nothing is ever free, Halfrauds might advertise these checks as free but they will always find something expensive wrong, and if there isn't anything wrong they will just make it up. They pray on the fact that we aren't mechanics and that we can't check for ourselves. We have to take what they say as gospel. I finally got my peace of mind but it was from a local independent garage. I WILL NEVER USE HALFRAUDS EVER AGAIN AND I'D ADVISE OTHERS TO AVOID THEM ALSO.

Use Merry Hill and Amblecote for my bikes - a Carrera and a Boardman and the staff have all been nothing but helpful. When I ordered my bike online it said it would be ready next day at 4pm. I had a call from the store within the hour and picked it up another hour later. 6 week check done thoroughly and promptly (and much better than I would have done it). All parts appear to be properly greased and put together and I don't think a LBS would have done a better job. Thank you.
when i left my car for wheel alignment after 500 mileage lost completely side thread on my Tyre back with complain they told me that is not halfords fault possible i damaged suspension they also re adjustment while keep steering wheel straight car goes to left after first alignment they don't know how to doing any service. Chalfords doing only one thing very well CHARGE FOR UN DONE SERVICE AVOID AVOID avoid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I went in for a major service which was £200 pounds, and when I got home, I received a call saying that they needed to do £500 worth of repairs. This was odd as I had the car serviced a year ago, and it was fine, and I keep my car in good condition. Since I am going to university in a couple of days, I just agreed to the repairs. I was told the car would be ready to collect at 12:00, and that I'd get a phone call telling me when it was ready. I received no phone call by 14:00, so I decided to call them at 14:00, and was told that the car would be ready in an hour. An hour went by, and I still did not receive a phone call, so I called them again at 17:00 (since they close at 17:30) and they said that the car was ready, even though they did not have the courtesy to call me. I then picked up my car 5 hours later than the agreed time.
When I picked up my car, I noticed a deep scratch on the rear bumper of my car, and when I confronted them about it, they said they do not go near the rear bumper, as in a service, work is only done under the bonnet of the car. This is not true as the spare wheel is checked in a major service, which is in the boot. After arguing with them for 15 minutes, they refused to accept liability, and said that they do not accept liability for damage done in their car park since there was a sign stating that. I told them that just because they have a sign, it does not mean they are not liable, and the Halfords representative then continued to tell me that I could have done the damage to the car previously, and that they get a lot of people complaining about scratches on cars after Halfords have carried out work. Does this not suggest a pattern then? That a lot of people's cars have been damaged by Halfords, but they refuse to own up. The representative then proceeded to say that if my car was clean, they would be able to accept liability, but since my car was dirty, they would not, which is ridiculous, as it would not make a difference at all. I know there was not a scratch on the rear bumper when I dropped it off in the morning, as I inspected the car beforehand, but also because of the fact that I only just had the rear bumper replaced.
I made the manager write paid under protest on my receipt, and am going to complain to the head office, and subsequently take it to small claims court if it is not resolved. This is the first time I used Halfords autocentre, and it will be my last time.

The boom in Cycling I guess keeps them afloat but the customer experience is beyond belief.
There's no point in complaining as the compaints team don't bother to ask your opinion and are toothless.
They give a sanitised 'corporate" response which is based on the customer is always wrong.
Took my car for a new radio for my wife.
No expertise on site but happy to take your money.
Went back and left with a bigger problem than when I started.
A big hole where a once working radio was with the bracket bent beyond repair (I was told that removal of bracket would take two minutes not an hour).
No-one on site to help.
Manager as useful as a chocolate teapot.
Complained and told my problem not theirs but gave refund.
The customer experience is everything and as businesses like Comet and countless others discovered deliver this or go out of business.
Really shoddy and unprofessional experience, never again.

I have twice now tried using Halfords online Reserve and Collect Service where supposedly you are meant to be able to collect goods from a store an hour later. Despite providing both my home and mobile telephone numbers, both times I have not received any notification that my purchase was ready to collect. I appreciate that sometimes the store may go "out of stock"... but you'd think they'd have the courtesy to let you know. Even just a text would be something... but both times - nothing!
Further to this, we bought 2 mountain bikes back in April 2013... the first ride, hubby's seat fell off! Good job we'd bought tools and taken out with us, otherwise it would have been a long walk home!
Certainly won't be shopping with them again anytime soon.

Halfords south gyle. Car taken in with misfire. Came out with slight missfire. Taken back in . No missfire over reving. Next day missfire asked to leave car with garage.
Garage miles from home or anywhere when your Carless.
The manager was door smoking a fag . He did not even stop smoking when speaking to me..
It appeared they are busy enough doing fleet motors the general public can get short shrift..
Phoned customer services no call back.
They new advert on tv is opposite in reality of customer satisfaction..it should say . Gives us your money and we will take care if ourselves..
They failed my car for front brake pads and wanted a fortune to change and supply them so l went to the halfords shop and bought them myself took them back to the garage and they said they don't fit those parts (well the pads l bought from halfords and this is halfords autocentre?) if they don't fit them what do they fit???? Also they said my tyre was on the wrong way round??!?!? And said l had to take the tyre off the wheel turn it round and put it back on ha! What i really had to do was swap the rear left wheel with the front right wheel, did they tell me this no! They also failed it on left windscreen wiper, l swapped it with the rear one took it back in and they said it was fine now! They also never gave me a breakdown of my brake performance so l had to guess whether it was pads, calipers, hoses etc, people are rude and always think you are stupid, there parts are poor quality much worse than most garages and l haven't even started about my experience on buying a push bike, STEER WELL CLEAR OF HALFORDS AUTOCENTRE AND HALFORDS! Try shirley motor spares cheap and helpful

We purchased a Tire with them about a year ago, which has continually gone flat - generally needing more air twice per month, However recently it's being going pancake flat quicker - so my Fiance' took it to Kwikfit for a puncture repair, an hour of having the tyre Kwikfit said there is no puncture.
We went back to Halfords who tested it, found nothing wrong with the wheel or tire and sealed it with some black gunk - all before the 12 months has gone, I asked the guy at Halfords what happens if it goes flat again, "I promise it wont". A month later we've had to put air in it three times - we head to halfords for the Fiance's MOT and a new tire, and they've simply just resealed it again and said they can't do anything about it until the manager gets back. They fail the MOT and charge her £12.49 for "Headlight Adjustment", a typical con! Takes less than 2 minutes to adjust them, every other garage in the world does it free (even Kwikfit) looks like they're recovering the loss from an half price MOT.
Long story short; contacted the Store manager when he finally got back off of his month long "Holiday" and turns out the guys a real idiot. He said the only thing he's willing to do "as a good will gesture" because the cars out of it's 12 month Warranty is to send it back to the manufacturer for a test, to which we will be without a tyre and on a space saver for an unknown amount of time and if it's found to be not faulty then we're up the creek.
I told him that the manufacturer warranty is irrelevant to me because of the Sales of Goods Act and the Tire was purchased from Halfords and therefore the problem is to be resolved by them, he told me that the SOGA is 12months, to which I laughed and said no its not, and even if it was then the vehicle was returned to the auto centre with the fault before that time and has been an existing fault ever since that his staff were unable to fix.
He's told me that he's unable to, and has no power to do anything other than return the tyre to the manufacturer for testing.
I'm now awaiting a call back from their Area Manager - it's taken 3 days so far and nothing, seems like one of those things with Halfords, I called their manager 5 times in one day and left call back requests hours after hours!
Don't give these ignorant robbing idiots your money.

My son chose a mountain bike weeks before his birthday. When we finally called in to Halfords Stockport they told us it was no longer available!
The guys started ringing stores around the North West until they found a display bike for us. The guy serving us then arranged to collect it thatvevening in his own time from his colleagues house! Two days later i picked up the bike. Halfords Stockport Bike Team are fantastic.
I set off for my drive home from Cambridge to Southampton and I stopped at a petrol station as my car was making very funny sounds, and the customer service assistant suggested that before I start my journey I go to Halfords to get engine oil...
I arrived at 6.10, ten minutes after closing time, but they were still letting the staff out the door and as soon as I explained my problem, Michael said '"we can't say no to a damsel in distress". Not only did he come and look at my car to top up the oil, but behind the counter he had a bottle of oil with a puncture mark that was unsellable so he offered me it for free. He was there for half an hour after closing time, and was so helpful and kind. Thank you very much to Michael for making my experience of Halfords such a positive one, I will definitely be coming back again!
On the 17th July 2013 I was told by my Mechanical Insurance company to take my car into Halfords at Braintree to get my air conditioning repaired, today is the 30th August and my car is still there, UNFIXED.
The manager at the Braintree centre (Mick) every time I phone up tells me the dashboard is in thousands of pieces on the garage floor, I believe it is too complicated for them to put back together, and that servicing takes priority for a quick turn over of cash. I have spoken after complaining with the area manager (Steve from Chelmsford) who told me "Trust us my friend" but I have never met him, how is he my friend? He has not repaired my car.
Since it has been into Braintree I have been told that they do not have the competent staff to reset the system, I have been told that parts are on order, but they are not sure if that will cure the problem, then to top it all I have a voicemail from the centre telling me that as they were putting it back together a few weeks ago they shorted out the control system and had to send it away for repair, a week later they told me it was irrepairable and that a new part had to be ordered, when that arrived I was told that it was incomplete and that they had to retrieve the old part to take certain parts off of it as the new one did not come with them. Last week 23rd August, they phoned me, I asked if my car was ready, I was told the earliest they could give me any idea was next Wednesday 28th August as they had to book it in to Volvo to get the management system reset as they did not have the competence or equipment. On phoning today 30th August six and a half weeks later I was told, When we sent it to Volvo they found a problem in the loop system? and could not reset the in car management, well this was about it, the world should know what is going on within these centres.
I speak with a little authority and some inside knowledge. A few years ago the A.A. purchased the Autocentres from Halfords and used them as there own service centres for AA vehicles. After a while the patrols were up in arms as they knew the attention to detail was not happening and any where near what it would be as expected from our usual repairers, or own A.A. workshops. We ( The A.A.) embarked on a focused training project to get the Halfords staff to what we felt was an acceptable level of competence to deal with the public's vehicles and people.
From most of the reviews I have seen this seems to have gone out of the window since the A.A. relinqueshed ownership of Halfords. I speak as the A.A. Operations manager at the time with all A.A./Halfords service centres from within Kent, Sussex, Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Lincoln and Northampton under my direct control with my management team.
Now I am sure there are some mechanical engineers within the group who are highly intellegent and very competent, but are they being held back by the supervisors to turn over cash flow, which they should do for the business the R.O.I. must be at a level to maintain the business, however are they doing it to the detriment of total customer service.
Since my car has been in Halfords I have had to hire vehicles at my expense, take taxi's at my expense, I have all reciepts that so far come to over £800 and that is only starting from the second week that my car was in Halfords Braintree. I will be submitting these claims to Halfords and if required will follow to small claims for recompense of my outlay, as they refused to fund a hire car for my business (Photography) as they said it was not in there remit to do so, I will let the senior management decide, or if they cannot make the decision take it to a court.

I have a number of bad experiences with Halfords, from my car battery that they could not remove (it was fixed instantly by my local garage afterwards), to my children's bikes that were not serviced properly. Their labour cost is stupidly high for incompetent work and on top of that you get a mouthful. They always make you feel as if they are knowledgeable, arrogant professionals and you (the client) know f... all.
In May the air conditioning in our Astra started to not work properly, i'm not expert but i surmised it may need re-gassing.
So it had an MOT coming up so after finding out our usual garage wanted £140 for MOT + Air Con Service, i booked it in at Halfords Autocentre who wanted £76 for the same.
MOT was all fine, went through no problem and they refilled the Air Con, they said that it was very low and could be leaking, if it all leaks out we'll need to bring it back for repair, they implication was it would not be free. A follow up letter two weeks later saying that if further work is required on our Air Conditioning system they would offer 20% off providing the invoice was £100 or more seem to confirm this.
By mid July it was not working again, it was making a weird whooshing noise, a quick Google revealed this was due to no gas. Thinking that Halfords Autocentred would just charge me loads for repair I took it to our local garage.
They found the leak straight away on the low pressure valve, re-gassed it and it's working better than it ever has...and they charged me their standard £90 fee.
I complained to Halfords and got called up by Senior Manager Graham Roche from Halfords Autocentre, this guy was hilariously rude and his call didn't feel like a "let's make the customer feel better call"....it was more a "let's tell the customer that he's wrong and we're right and to sod off".
I complained again and a lady called Anita Ward, a Customer Services Manager basically wrote out in a more polite way what Senior Rudeness Manager Graham had said AT me, but did offer a free MOT to me, but I don't really want to take my car back to them, I want the money back for the Air Conditioning Service.
So I wanted to share my experience, it definitely feels better to go to your trusted dealer pay a little extra than to be pulled in by Halford's Autocentres special offers, of course the savvy will already know this but many will fall for it.

had a bike still under warranty wheel axle broke or so they said, they took it in to fix for £12 axle and £7 LABOUR CHARGE,they never bothered telling me it was ready i had to fone up 6 days later and they hadnt needed an axle just tighten wheel and it was £14 labour charge but when i questioned this they miraculously had a £7 bill also ready but were willing to charge double if i hadnt asked. the bike was worse, back wheel broke, gears dont work and making a horrific noise, when i asked them the next day, they had all covered there backs with absolute rubbish, even told me to complain to papers as i had no leg to stand on with trading standards, customer services also filled me with rubbish after talking to there store, this is newgate street newcastle upon tyne
stay well away from this store, they should all be in jail
Peterhead - Aberdeenshire branch.
We had a car battery from Halfords with a supposed 4 year replacement gaurantee.
The battery failed just under the 1 year mark, it would say 'fully charged' as soon as you connected it to the charger.
Halfords refused to replace it as they insisted it must be a problem with my car and not the battery - and if they changed it they would just be 'stuck with it', assumingly it's ok for me just to be stuck with it.
I offered to bring the car in, so they could check there was no fault with the car, and then if they were happy they would change the battery ? Apparently this was no good and my car was still at fault regardless.
I must have bridled at this a bit as the assistant manager told me with this attitude I wouldn't get anywhere - I don't remember being anything but polite to be honest.
Emailed customer service and got pretty much the same - we have your money now and we don't care about you anymore.
As such, I would now rather drive the extra 20 miles to pretty much ANY other car parts stockist.
Have since bought a new battery from a different reseller and everything is fine.
I will never shop in Halfords again, for anything.
Horrible, grubby little company that doesn't care about their customers - surely they must be doomed to the same fate as Comet who had the same level of contempt for their customers.
