Look before you leap

There have been many negative reports about bargain sites like Groupon with what appears to be great deals on hotels, restaurants etc.
We have taken advantage of many of these now, but not before researching Tripadvisor first and we have not struck a dud yet.
You have to be selective on how you inteprete the reviews. If there are 90 people giving a hotel 5 stars and one or two who say the place is terrible, then we go with the majority and it has always worked out OK.
Not only that, but when we have had an exceptional experience, we do not hesitate to put a good review of our own on the site.

Service beyond the call of duty

I recently bought a bed from this company and have been moved to give a review as their service was so exceptional.
Buying a bed is not a simple as you would think. Firstly you should always try it out before you buy and there are not that many places now that you can actually do this. We were shocked by the poor display of dirty and damaged beds in the so-called John Lewis flagship store in Oxford Street, London.
I have to say that the proprietor was not too amused when I said I could buy off the internet for lower prices. However we were able to try several beds before we chose the one we wanted and arrived at a good compromise price. When they delivered the bed, they carried it up our winding stairs (which I now realise my wife and I could not have done), put it together in the bedroom, took away the old bed and the packaging, all without further charge.
An internet company would probably have just dumped the bed on our front doorstep. I always try to support local companies if I can and Sterling Beds certainly justified this.

New Year Club Class offer

We took up BA's special offer on Club Class flights over the Christmas period and decided to fly to Las Vegas to see the New Year in.
Well it all started with a vist to their lounge at Heathrow in Terminal 5 - wow what a great experience - no wonder this has won a global award.
The flights, food, service etc both ways were exceptional. Only problem now is that we cannot face travelling Economy again.
The only poor part of the trip was that there was not a direct flight back home so we had to use BA's partner American Airlines for the first leg of the journey from Vegas to Chicago, supposedly First Class. Our treatment from them was sadly no way in the same class as BA. We found out after that AA had filed for bankruptcy and were not the least bit surprised

The couple of times when I have had a problem, Amazon has recitified it immediately with no cost to me
