Why wouldn't you love google?
Let's face it, without google we would be lost and have to rely on the likes of 'Bing' and what-not. Its easy to use, has all those extra apps for those of us who like to spice things up a bit and best of all does a good job.
Skype
Cheaper than paying.
The phrase 'At least we're not paying for this' is often used in my Skype conversations, which is definitely true. If I had to pay for a shoddy video and distorted sound I would be royally pissed off. Thankfully I don't. But the reason I use Skype, apart from it being free, is that I am travelling. I must state that one reason for my terrible phone conversations could have something to do with the hostel's wi-fi connection, but half the time such an excuse is not valid. But it does the job (except when the call unexpectedly drops) and hey, at least I'm not paying for it.

Whether it be a year long Eurotrip or a quick stop over in the States you can easily book it on hostelworld.com. I have been using the sight for all of my bookings, cause lets face it, who wants to use hostel bookers? It's easy to use and they make paying for membership worth you while- no complaints heard from this solo Aussie backpacker.
